A couple of weeks ago the trailer for the upcoming 2009 The Wolfman movie with Benicio Del Toro hit the web, I mean it was leaked online. According to my previous posts, the new movie is a hot and catching remake of the classic werewolf tale. Together with Benicio such starts as Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving will be in it.

After watching the trailer I had a feeling that the film is something that would deliver. During a couple of minutes we were shown a number of details, scenes and ideas. Frankly speaking, there is a whirl of emotions in me.

First of all, London and its suburbs look incredible in the movie. The city is really dreary and isolated because most of its inhabitants being threatened by a nightmarish beast. The second option I like, actually, it is only a guess, this movie seemed to touch upon something bigger and more important than a fact of changing of a man into a wolf. It is about the process and reasons of changing. The third thing that impresses me is the way they changed the appearance of the wolfman, now it looks completely believable and stands on four legs.

Frankly speaking, I didn’t like one thing – a number of visual effects, there are a lot of them and as to me they distract us from the idea of the movie.

What do you think?

Nowadays, when a movie gets a title “horror movie” it means it will attract audience for sure and if this movie has a catching plot as well as stylish sceneries and famous actors – it will be a hit. If to have a closer look at Wolfman stories, you will understand that they have always been successful and have attracted attention of people as a magnet. And really “why not”? A wolfman is a nightmarish beast, a werewolf that haunts people. Such stories are terrifying, scaring, awful but still very interesting and make your blood turns to ice during watching.

This legend is as old as the hills. Spine-chilling stories about werevoles also known as lycanthropes take their origins from ancient times. A werewolf – is a human who can easily change both shape and appearance into a wolf or wolf-like creature. A human can become a werewolf either by being bitten or scratched by another werewolf, or simply after being placed under a curse.

The first movie about Wolfman appeared in 1924, it was a silent film starring John Gilbert, Norma Shearer, and Eugene Pallette. However, it was a success. There were two more movies about The Wolfman in 1941 and 1979. The upcoming movie about The Wolfman was originally scheduled for February 13, 2009 (the date was perfect – a Friday the 13th), but then they switched it to April 3, 2009. The latest reschedule was made in December 2008 – now the movie should be released in November 6.

The first rumours as to Universal Pictures remaking The Wolf Man with Benicio del Toro in the lead role appeared in March 2006 and they proved to be true. It is reported that the story was rewritten by Andrew Kevin Walker and the werewolf would stand of four legs, the movie would have a couple of additional characters and tremendous visual effects.

Shooting took place from March 3 to June 23, 2008 in the UK and the movie had a budget of US$85 million. Rick Baker was the one who created the make-up for The Wolfman and as a result it looked more than believable.

Are you ready?
